Children:
Children express the stresses in their lives differently than adults.
They tend to act out their distress with behavior problems (such
as lying, angry outbursts, irritability, aggression, poor school
performance).
Adolescents:
While adolescents are more like adults, their brains are still
developing. Adolescents tend to show their distress in extremes
of typical teenage behavior. Rebellion, angry outbursts, verbal
tantrums, aggressive behavior and mood swings are not uncommon.
Families:
Today’s busy lives take their toll on the kind of family
relationships we want. Work demands take our time and energy from
the people we love and shorten our tempers. Relationships suffer.
Therapy with families focuses on optimizing each family member’s
functioning, identifying and increasing strengths, and dissipating
areas of tension.
Individuals:
Many things keep us from reaching our optimal functioning. Issues
from the past, current stressors, emotional over or under reacting
get in the way of creating the healthy relationships we want.
