Play Therapy

The theoretical grounding of play therapy is that children use play to communicate and express the feelings and experiences that they cannot yet communicate and/or process verbally.

Play therapy includes a wide range of activities, but may include art therapy, activity therapy (art and crafts type of activities), bibliotherapy (reading books and writing stories), use of puppets, play with dolls, dress up, or similar role plays.

Attachment Therapy

This very specific therapy is used to heal and enhance the relationship between a child and his or her caregivers. The goal of treatment is to enhance the self esteem, trust, and joyful engagement within the relationship. The focus is on empowering parents to continue using the relationship promoting interactions learned during treatment sessions.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

For younger children, this may include behavior plans or charts, role playing, relaxation techniques, stimulus desensitization, social skills training, or other skills practice. For older children, adolescents, and adults, this may include learning skills to manage anxiety, stress, or fine tuning skills needed to manage difficult relationships or situations.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

This therapy helps heal painful memories, disturbances, trauma, emotional arousal and behavioral symptoms. EMDR is based on the idea that the two sides of the brain process information differently. Sometimes trauma can cause information to be stored in an isolated way that is not integrated and healthy, causing symptoms. Stimulating both sides of the brain (through eye movements, taps, sounds) helps activate the integrative functions in the brain so information can be stored and processed in an adaptive (healthy) manner.
